LOVE this album start to finish, but t just occurred to me just how much Doug resembles Chevy Chase! But SUCH. GREAT. SONGS!

I've never heard a band better able to replicate their recordings live.better than these guys. Of course it was designed this way - they basically recorded the songs the exact same way they would play them in the clubs around LA. So what you hear on the record is exactly what you would hear live.

Early summer 1979 before my Senior High School year, bunch of us did a Senior Car Wash fund raiser where my friend’s trunk was popped open and the stereo jamming…Heard My Sharona at least 5 times that afternoon and by the time we were done that song was a hit with all of us!!! Get The Knack became our soundtrack for that school year…oh to do it all again!!

I noticed that the video is the clean version. The album has a couple of different lines. "She's So...Selfish" was never released as a single in the U.S. because Doug refused to change the words again.

I remember hearing this song for the first time in "Middle Age Crazy." Staring Bruce Dern and Ann Margaret. With Ann Margaret dancing in lingerie as a white strobe light strobed us boys all over the place.

Great rock tune, but I don't see the connection with New Wave, at least not as it is defined in Europe. To me, it was 80 % rock, the other 20% closer to American punk, think Ramones, Blondie etc than New Wave. Having said that, whatever the right label is, this song rocks, and it was something very different than heard before. It definetely deserved its n° 1 status. Recently discovered with a serious delay the Serioud Fun albuw, wow, that one too is quite cool, surprised to see it didn't do that well (judging from the number of thumbs up here on UA-cam) I guess all the teenage girls from the My Sharona era were married by that time, and rather concentrating on the adventurous behaviour of their toddlers than on the band's new release....

My Sharona was big in Australia in 1979, It was my favorite song on the charts at the time. I was an excited 13 year old and bought the single as soon as it was released then later the album Get the Knack

ma come si è fatto a dimenticare the knack o dire che erano solo quelli di "My Sharona"? Baby talks dirty è ancora la sveglia telefonica del mio cellulare....canzone anche più forte sotto certi versi della grande hit che li ha comunque resi immortali (grazie Dio!!!). E invece la gente che non capiva un emerito ceppo, da lì in poi li ha snobbati. Io li rimpiango moltissimo così come il loro suono live, la loro compattezza, il virtuosismo di Averre e Gary, la solidità di Niles e la poliedricità e assoluto carisma di Fieger. Mi mancano moltissimo ancora oggi e ancora non mi capacito della fine del loro successo. Ma le orecchie la gente le aveva improvvisamente foderate di prosciutto????????!!!!

Mike Chapman was THE producer of 1979. Racey had "Some Girls" and "Lay your love on me" wre number 1, and the "Smash and Grab" album, Suzi Quatro "She's in love with you", Blondie "Eat to the Beat" and then The Knack. A whole career of highlights in one year!!!!
